Working with Derby Cars β Driven by Derby
This page outlines how we work with local, self-employed licensed drivers and the terms that guide our platform partnership.
πΉ 1. Independent Driver Model
All drivers on our platform are self-employed, owner-managed professionals.
Derby Cars β Driven by Derby does not employ drivers.
We act purely as a digital booking and dispatch agent, using technology to connect passengers with licensed local drivers.
Drivers are free to accept or decline any job offered.
π As a service-based platform, we cannot guarantee ride requests. If no one requests a ride, there is nothing to dispatch. It’s not rocket science.
πΉ 2. Licensing & Legal Compliance
We operate under a Derby City Council private hire operator licence as Derby Cars.
All partner drivers must:
- Hold a valid Derby City Council private hire licence
- Operate a vehicle that meets all local compliance and safety standards
All journeys are fully compliant with private hire licensing terms:
- Even when requested via app, all rides are pre-booked
- Requests are first received at our operator base, then dispatched to a driver
- This keeps every ride legally compliant under private hire regulations
πΉ 3. Ride Request System
We use an automated, app-based dispatch system.
- Jobs are auto-assigned based on driver location and trip suitability/ passenger requirements
- No jobs are manually dispatched by our team
- Drivers receive offers and choose to accept or reject freely
- There is no favouritism or manual job feeding β all drivers are treated equally
π This approach ensures fairness and transparency in how jobs are distributed.
πΉ 4. Equal Access, No Tiered System
We do not offer tiered access or premium levels.
Every driver on the platform has equal opportunity to receive job offers.
Some early adopters may have fixed, reduced-rate subscriptions β a thank-you for their early support β but this is not part of any ongoing tier system.
π« We do not give special treatment or preference based on time served.
πΉ 5. Subscriptions & Payment
Platform access is via a monthly subscription, processed securely using Stripe.
- Payments are taken automatically from the drivers debit card added during sign-up
- Drivers may cancel at any time, no notice required
- π« No refunds are offered for paid subscriptions
- The fee covers your app access, marketing, and technical support
πΉ 6. Driver Conduct Expectations
As self-employed professionals, we expect:
- Courteous, safe, and respectful service
- Clean, roadworthy vehicles
- Polite communication with passengers and staff
π’ Misconduct or repeated complaints may result in removal from the platform.
